With RIDERS ON THE STORM
and Hoot's new CD, JUST HOOT, EYE RECKON, in tow, we'll be
promoting both the book and CD along the route.
On July 8th, we'll be at
Chapters Bookstore in
Chinook Centre on MacLeod Trail from noon until
five p.m. for a book and CD signing event. The
date marks our two year anniversary of the
completion of the Eye Reckon Freedom Ride and our
entry into Calgary and
Stampede
grounds.
As last year, we're associated with the
Firewagon
Chuckwagon racing team and we're looking forward
to meeting up with our friend Blake Willard and the
whole team.
Norma Dunn, International Committee member at
Stampede, has been working hard on our behalf with
media contacts and getting our press release out.
Thanks, Norma!
All in all we're looking forward to having a great
time stampeding through Stampede and getting the Eye
Reckon Freedom Ride story out again in book form and
through Hoot's music.
If you're going to be at Stampede, please look us
up. If you would like us to stop for a book/cd
event along the route from Texas to Calgary,
E-MAIL US
and we'll try to work something out with you.

An update for
you EARLY RISERS! Thanks so much to
KBAL for this AMAZING opportunity!
On Thursday, May 18, 2006, Hoot's new CD -
JUST HOOT - EYE RECKON - had it's first
radio airplay at KBAL in San Saba, Texas.
Shay Hardy not only played the track, "I
Specialize In Mules" , he also interviewed
Hoot about the new CD and Mary about the
book, RIDERS ON
THE STORM - The True Story of The Eye Reckon
Freedom Ride.
The debut of
the CD and the interview at KBAL were made
more special because San Saba is Hoot's home
territory. We would encourage all of you to
tune in at 1410 AM or 106.1 FM or use the
Internet link below. KBAL has an
international audience on the Internet and
plays great country music. Please check out
their website (where you can even listen to
their station via the web, LIVE!) at
www.kbalradio.com

I suppose this will count as the official non official
release of ERFR's first cd. That's right, James E. "Hoot"
Gibson has recorded an album under the generous direction of
Larry Nolan. We've been busy producing these cd's and have
just printed a first run of 50 copies. We did a small
preview release where there were a lot of glitches on the cd's,
but, amazingly, all 25 of the imperfect ones have SOLD!
The cd is entitled JUST HOOT, EYE RECKON. It contains 7
tracks ranging from cover songs, original music, and spoken word
pieces. If you surf on over to our
photographs section, you can see
the front cover, liner notes, back cover, and even the actual
cd. We are unable to automate the selling of these cd's
since they take a great deal of time to produce. However,
if you'd like to purchase one, just e-mail us at
eyereckonride@aol.com
and we'll set up an order for you. The price is 16.99 plus
shipping and handling. These are selling EXTREMELY fast,
so if you want one, e-mail us soon to purchase your own copy! And, while
you're at it, why not put an order in for the recent award
winner, RIDERS ON THE STORM.
The two make a great pair (not to mention, you'll receive a
discount for purchasing both).

Congratulations are in order for writer Mary Allyce who's
ERFR centered non-fiction novel, RIDERS ON THE STORM, just picked dup an honorable mention in
the
2006 Independent Publisher Book Awards! These awards,
run by the
independent publisher website, allow independently published
books from all over the US and Canada to compete. This is
a huge honor for the book. The competition boasts
somewhere over 3000 entries! You can read the full list of
winners on this PDF (The category in mention is Best
Regional Non-Fiction in the South, and can be found on page 11).
So check out those links above, and once more, congratulations
Mary!

We have a section on our site for READER REVIEWS.
However, sometimes one comes along that takes us so by surprise,
it's worth special notice. Paddi Sprecher runs The
Canadian Trail House, (www.CanadianTrailHouse.com).
She wrote such wonderful words about the book, we've
posted them right here on a special page of our site.

As we reported earlier, we're going to raffle of a copy of
Riders on the Storm, autographed by Mary "Allyce" Schenk and
James E. "Hoot" Gibson, as well as some other cool ERFR swag.
What other goodies lie in store for the winner? Well, a few
things. We're going to toss in an autographed Riders On The
Storm bookmark, 2 Riders bumper stickers, and a sneak preview
at an upcoming ERFR DVD we are producing. That's right, the
lucky winner will receive the first ever look at ERFR'S new DVD
storyteller. Now, we feel bad that we can only give away one
book, so we've decided to add some runner up prizes. First
prize is the book and all those glorious goodies. Second prize
will be a 25% off coupon good on one copy of
Riders on the Storm, the DVD and their choice of a bumper
sticker or bookmark. Third prize will be a 10% off coupon good
on one copy of the book and the DVD. Entering, as we said, is
free, just send us an
e-mail at this link.
In the subject line put "ERFR RAFFLE", and then in the body of the

entry a number and have the winner randomly chosen by computer.
Not only do you get free goodies (Including a GREAT book!), but your
name will forever be immortalized among the pages of the ERFR
website. Deadline for this raffle is March 17th. That's
just one more week get in on this special event! Send us an

It's a RED LETTER day for the ERFR. Well, to be honest,
it's a lowercase letter, and it's not quite red, but it definitely
has a maroonish tinge to it. After months and months of
trying, we've managed to get ourselves picked up on the Google
search engine. Great news? Well, it's good for us,
though bittersweet seeing as how we're about 16th on the list.
Still, we've recently sent our site out to many search engines and
are working at getting greater exposure for our humble venture.
We are also almost at 2000 hits for the website. We couldn't
be happier! And, to share that happiness with you, our
faithful readers, we're having a good old fashioned GIVEAWAY!
We're going to raffle off a copy of
Riders on the Storm, as well as some other cool ERFR swag.
What other goodies lie in store for the winner? We're not sure
yet. ;) But we promise they will be great items to add
to your ERFR collection. The cost of a ticket for this raffle?
FREE! That's right, just send us an
e-mail at this link.

The great thing about
the Eye Reckon Freedom Ride
is that it is always expanding. The success of
Riders on the Storm has produced
many avenues for us. At the present time, ERFR has both a CD
and a DVD In the works. Stay tuned for more information about
these exciting new developments.

The book signing at the
Rylander
Library in San Saba was well attended by local folks, many
of whom knew Hoot and his family, although many of them knew him
as "James", not "Hoot"!
We continued riding from San
Saba, toward our next signing in Kerrville at
Hastings Bookstore. Our tradition of dragging bad weather
with us wherever we go continued. The temps dropped, it got icy
and rainy and we decided to continue the ride at a later date.
Riding in bad weather on heavily trafficked roads is just plain
dangerous to humans and horses. On the ERFR, we had the option
to sit camp, but this time we had to make a signing at Hastings
on February 11th.
The signing was a success for
us and the store. The number of people and sales of books was
gratifying and we had a great time meeting, greeting and
signing. The management at Hastings is a wonderful group to
work with and made it easy on us and fun. Even had a warm,
creamy latte courtesy of the coffee house in store.
A bonus of the signing was
reuniting with our good Canadian friends, Jim and Louise Bell.
Jim is the musician who wrote "A Modern Day Cowboy" about Hoot
and the ride, and they stayed throughout the signing, then met
up with us in Bandera, where they are camped for a month or so.
Hoot (riding Crystal) even took Jim to town and back on Reckon,
that sweetheart of a young quarter horse. Despite a bad hip,
Jim agreed with me Reckon is like "sitting on a big, comfortable
sofa". Reckon is highly revered by Jim & Louise (and a lot of
Canada), so riding him was a thrill for Jim and a proud moment
for us, as well.

The Eye Reckon Freedom Ride
is hitting the road again to complete the
"Ace in The Hole Ride" which
started in Richland Springs, Texas and will be completed in Bandera,
Texas.
The ride was interrupted by
the arrival in Bandera of good friends Blake Willard and Joanna of
Okotoks, Alberta (near Calgary). Blake (a captain in the Calgary
fire department) also "captains" the
Firewagon Chuckwagon race
team. These heart-stopping races run nightly at the Calgary
Stampede. After sightseeing in San Antonio at Riverwalk and the
Alamo, going to the San Antonio
Livestock Show and Rodeo and sampling the stores and honkytonks
in Bandera, Blake and Joanna are heading to Florida and the Eye
Reckon team is heading back to Llano, Texas, to pick up the ride
where they stopped it last week.
We will be riding to
Kerrville for a book signing at
Hastings Bookstore on Saturday, February 11th from 2 - 4 p.m.
Then it's back to Bandera. We're so pleased at the response to the
book and encourage you to read the "Reader
Review" page to see what folks are saying about it.

We asked, and you responded! We've got the first page of
READER REVIEWS for your viewing pleasure. We
would like to thank everyone for sending in their kind sentiments. Our
readers are what make this all worthwhile. We're glad everyone is
enjoying the book so much. If you're still waffling on making the
purchase, check out the reviews, and see if your
mind isn't changed. If you want to contribute a review,
e-mail us here. If you want
to buy a book so you can leave a review of your own, visit our
online sales page. Again, we thank you
for your continued support of the ERFR, and we'll be back with more news
soon.

Notice anything new? That's right, we're adding dates
to all of our news stories to better help you in figuring out what you've
read, what you need to read, and when you might have missed while you were
away. We've also added another page to our archives. You can
surf over to our main ARCHIVES page, or go
directly to the oldest stories, Archives (1),
or the next oldest stories, Archives (2).
We will keep adding to the archives as we get more stories, and now that
we're adding dates, eventually you'll be able to look up news stories from
certain months and years. Stick around, we're just getting started!

On
January 27, 2006, The Eye Reckon Freedom Ride will kick off its "Ace In
The Hole Ride" from San Saba, Texas, back to Bandera, Texas. The 150
mile ride will cover the same ground Hoot Gibson rode in the 1990's to
raise funds for his home congregation, St. Christopher's Episcopalian
Church in Bandera. While making that ride alone, the idea for the 2,500
mile Eye Reckon Freedom Ride was born.
Exactly
two years after riding into San Saba on the Texas to Canada ride, The
Eye Reckon Freedom Ride will once again make camp in the beautiful
Risiens Park, San Saba. While there, they will hold an event at the
Rylander Memorial Library on January 28th, to promote the book -
RIDERS
ON THE STORM - The True Story of The Eye Reckon Freedom Ride.
As
always, your support of Eye Reckon, Hoot Gibson, Mary Allyce Schenk,
Keystone, Reckon, Crystal, Baggs and our support team is so very much
appreciated!
We want to thank everyone who's
signed our guestbook so far. This feature is very important to us as it
gives us an idea of how many people are visiting the site, and how we are
reaching them (YOU!). The more entries we get, the more exposure we get.
Just a few tips and pointers on the guestbook. First of all, don't be
afraid to advertise. There is a space for your e-mail address AND website.
That's FREE ADVERTISING! Secondly, you don't HAVE to list your e-mail, you
can remain quite anonymous. And lastly, and please don't think we're being
nit picky, but we've noticed a lot of fairly personalized entries on the
guestbook. We appreciate the sentiments, but the guestbook is for people
to write in about the website or the book. It is not a personal message
board for Mister Hoot Gibson or Miss Mary Schenk. The ERFR e-mail address
is much better for that (eyereckonride@aol.com).
So, please come and sign our book, just remember that your "personal" message
can be read by everyone that visits the guestbook, so don't get too mushy on us.
Heheh. Now, what are you waiting for, take a peak at, or
sign the guestbook NOW!

Well, at least we can say we
tried. :) We've made several attempts at getting the automated
website to provide the correct shipping cost for international orders, and it
doesn't look like it's going to be possible. However, you can still buy
the book online from us. As many of you have already done,
write us and tell us how many books
you'd like to purchase, your address, and how to contact you. We will
asses the shipping cost, and send you an online bill/payment request on PAYPAL,
and you can pay that way. We will also accept checks and money orders as
well. To make sure the cost is as low as possible for you, book prices may
vary country to country. Just e-mail (best way to reach us) or call us
with your special order, and we'll get you your books right away.

Welcome back everyone. We
hope you all had a wonderful holiday. Sorry for the lack of updates, but
we're still eating Turkey leftovers, unwrapping the last of the presents, and of
course, selling the heck out of Riders On The Storm! That's right, with
Christmas came many orders for the book. WE couldn't be happier with how
well the book is selling. But, even better than the closets full of cash
(ok, small drawers...ok, a drawer) are the wonderful, wonderful words everyone
has had about the book. Tears and laughter seem to be the most common.
That, and the fact that no one can seem to put the book down. We want to
thank everyone for all the kind things you've had to say about the book.
In fact, we'd like to post some too! If you've got a small review, or a
few words you'd like to share with us, e-mail us at
eyereckonride@aol.com, and tell us
what you think. We're going to compile them all and post them right here
on the site! Well, that's it for today, read on about our international
sales and our guestbook, and look forward to more from the ERFR!
