Canada 2005 Update Part 2
(The second of our
weekly trip logs.)
July 13th
Written by Mary Schenk
JULY
13, 2005
Hoot got his ride on a chuckwagon and what a ride it was! Our good friend,
Blake Willard of the Firewagon Team, put Hoot on the Friends of SAIT
Wagon with Blake's cousin, Jess Willard driving. Hoot was the assistant driver, which means he was
on the wagon as they came to the start, then again after the race. Assistants
are there to help the driver in the event of trouble. There was no trouble, but
what a thrill Jess gave us all and what a drive he gave that team of
thoroughbreds! Coming from behind, Jess maneuvered the team to the rail and the
four teams raced across the finish line four abreast, flying full out and the
Friends of SAIT team won! It was one of the most thrilling finishes of the
races so far. Hoot was elated to have the opportunity to ride along and we
thank Blake for getting Hoot the spot and Blake's talented cousin, Jess Willard, for a
heart-stopping run.
